Do NOT stay in this hostel! I stayed in the Abbes Hostel, Central Station in June 2005. Not only is there no reception, there is no lockers, no keys for the dormitory... nothing. I felt I was in a tomb. The whole place is underground. The way you get into the dormitory is with a door code, which doesn't seem to be changed very often... it seemed as though the whole of Stockholm knew the code (this is an exaggeration, but well deserved for the following reason). I only stayed there two nights, but within this time period, my friend got her wallet stolen and a girl had her whole bag stolen. I did not get a good vibe here, so I'd recommend staying somewhere else!!

I recommend Stockholm for a visit but under no circumstances stay at Abbes Central Station Hostel. It does not seem to be a member of any association because I would think the bathroom ratio alone would disqualify as a true hostel. 1 shower with a toilet and another toilet for more than 30 people was ridiculous.

Unfortunatley it was my first stay in a "hostel" and we just stayed out and finally ended up in the train station since the layout of the dorm was so bad-- only one central light switch and no ambient lighting-- each person who came in the room turned on the lights. Everyone was unhappy and irritable. Was not conductive to meeting new people, sleeping, relaxing or even going to the bathroom. Do yourself a favor and stay in a real hotel-- it is worth it OR stay out all night then sleep in a park during the day.

Hi to all Stockholm travelers out there. First of all I like to say that Stockholm is a very great city in the heart of Scandinavia. When I was there everyone seemed to be very friendly and extremely helpful. But now let's get into detail. Last week I stayed with a friend for a few days in Stockholm. We had to book our hostel very fast because we had decided on this short-trip very late. So we were looking for a cheap stay for three nights in Stockholm. The only vacant location was the Abbes Hostel Central Station (www.abbes.se for more info) five minutes from the "Central Bus Station". I booked the Hostel via internet for 300 SEK (32€)night/person. The information on the internet said that there is no reception right now but for further information you could call the Abbes Hostel Old Town every time. We arrived around 7 pm at the hostel and checked in via door code that we had received before from the manager. The room key should be stored in a safe at the reception-desk within an envelope(!). Inside the safe were a lot of keys but no envelope! So I had to call Abbes Old Town. The manager told me they forgot about it, but our room was the one with no. 7. The "hole" had the size of a jail-cell in my eyes (3x1,5 meters) for two persons! The bed was an IKEA-loft bed (very simple construction) with mattresses made of cheap home store-foam. There were no lamps or anything like that on the ceiling, only a lamp at the end of the room. And no windows at all!!! We also had no chance to regulate the heater in the room because the knob was in the room next to us. But Mr. Manager told us  about a central heating unit. The walls must be made of some kind of chip boards otherwise it is not imaginable for me to hear every single word from our neighbors. The hallway was stuffed with old stuff like sinks, boards, walls and unpacked IKEA-beds etc. Overall it was clean but looked like a complete mess to me. The shower (one for appr. 20 or more people) was a combination toilet/shower without any luxury (!) like curtain or shower-like things. But it worked! To shorten the whole story the price for this location was/is absolutely cheeky/fresh even if you keep in mind that the normal price per person/night would have been SEK 600!!! These info is according to the "trying to be" manager (original quote) of Abbes Hostels and as a matter of fact more than true! Finally we had the impression that we did not rented but bought the hostel for the price we paid. All that stays is a bad impression of Abbes Hostel Group and I would absolutely not recommend this hostel to any other Stockholm traveler. Thanks very much for you time. Yours Philipp, Germany
