Review:
The place was in a good area, and v.close to Kings Cross and clean.
While the Ashlee's location is undeniably central and convenient,
its facilities leave much to be desired. For US $30 a night (4-6 person room),
it's understandable that the accommodations would be spartan. Cleanliness,
however, should not be a problem. Unfortunately, it was. On one occasion when I
went to shower, the floor of two of the three showers were filled with water
(the urinal, covered in a white plastic bag, appeared to have been out of
service for some time). On another occasion the entire bathroom floor was
flooded. So I proceeded to another bathroom. Apparently someone had left the
water running in the sink, and the floor of the entire bathroom was also
flooded. Luckily the last possible place, the co-ed basement bathroom, was not
flooded.
To top it all off, I noticed blood smudged in several places on the door in
front of the toilet I was using.
Some members of the hotel staff were not particularly friendly. A girl behind
the front desk, a native French speaker, handled the pair who proceeded me
politely (they spoke French). However, when I asked her in English if I could
rent a towel (it costs 5 pounds or about US $10), she spoke curtly to me. When
she confirmed the room I was staying in with me, I answered, "You got it". To
my shock, she replied mockingly, "You got it".
If you choose to stay here, enjoy the location but be prepared for a sub-par
hostel experience. Oh, and bring a towel.

Overall I rated this hostel a 4/5. The pluses are the amazing
lounge areas, guest kitchen and location. Minuses, mostly room size and showers
with those annoying push button timers. Also security is tight which can be
annoying as you need codes to get in.

After a 24 Hour flight into London, all I wanted to do was sleep.
Getting to Ashlee House from Heathrow was simple, cheap and stress free. I
arrived at 9:30am. Here was the problem. The dorm rooms are not ready until 12!
I couldn't believe it. To their credit the reception made an exception and
found me a bed for a few hours..and gave me a free breakfast. I understand
that rooms need to be cleaned, but I'd imagine many people are in my situation.
Overall 4/5 for Ashlee House: Clean, cool interior and very central. Really
enjoyed the social side of things and those late night games of table football.

I
stayed at Ashlee House June 2 - 6 with my friends. I'm
writing this review as I sit in Paris hostel. Best bits:
Very special front area. The sheepskin couch is wow.
Staff are nice and I found the blackboard of local tips
nice. (Man at reception sent us to local pub and club
333.) Rooms clean but small. I felt the breakfast was
nice and served by a crazy Irish man. I have never seen
a hostel like this one. |

public transport at all and we saw everything. Try the
cool Thai BYO on Kings Cross Road..yuum. |
