Avalon House is a nice older hostel. It is also a fairly large
hostel, which leads to a little wear around the edges. The staff was helpful
and it had other conveniences like phone cards, pay phones on the premises,
tour booking, etc. We were woken up both nights by a sick guest and loud
groups. Bathrooms are older and darker.

This place rocks, had a fantastic time. The staff were
helpful and friendly and the hostel was located right in
the centre of the city. Excellent security and clean
showers. Will be back for more. |

Review:
This place looks really nice from the outside, and I'm
sure most rooms are probably ok, but whatever you do,
DON'T stay in the 32 bed dorm. This may seem like common
sense to most, but it was the first hostel I'd ever
stayed in, and I didn't really know what I was doing.
Anyways, the place is ok, I think I just had a bad
experience. The people in my dorm were loud, all of them
it seemed. Many came back singing at 3am. I stood in a
pile o' puke the following morning, and there were bugs
in the showers. BUT, the kitchen was decent, and the
front cafe thing was nice, too. A bit sedate when I was
there. |
