The hostel isn't 5-star, but it's great for students on a budget.
The staff were friendly and hip and had lots of help with tourist information.
The rooms were comfortable, if a bit cramped for 6 people, and the bright
colors made it feel more hang-out, and less institution-ish. Within walking
distance of the Edinburgh Castle and other attractions. The bathrooms were
corridor and unisex but forgiveable; the communal kitchens, its best feature,
are best for long-term occupants. The only downside was when they conveniently
"misplaced" our room key and tried to charge us for another.

Review:
Budget Backpackers has incredibly clean and bright rooms. The
common room is nice and the location is top notch. It is located in the
Grassmarket and close to the castle. This hostel is worth visiting and quiet
after 11:00.

Review:
Right in the centre of Edinburgh, close to the castle, shops, pubs
and eating places. I had a great stay and the staff were brilliant - helpful
and fun. Had a great night out with them!
