Where We Stayed

This is a brief summary of some of the places we stayed during our 7 month trip in Europe in 2000. Things might have changed since then so take that into consideration.

France:

Hotel Rivoli - 44 Rue de Rivoli, Paris, France Ph: (02) 42720841
Double bed, shared bathroom.
Great location, rooms have street noise but hey, it's Paris! Very cheap. Weak showers. Metro stop: Hotel de Ville. (Not to be confused by a few other higher class hotels with similar name, this one was a 0 - 1 star hotel).

Hotel Touring - 16 Rue Huguerie, 33800, Bordeaux, France Ph: 05 56 81 56 73
Double bed, private bathroom
2 star hotel with large rooms and private bathrooms. TV and small fridge. Good location and value.

Hotel Excelsior - 19 Av Durante 06000 Nice, France Ph: 04 93 88 18 05
Double bed, private bathroom
3 star hotel (had to splurge when our cheaper hotel couldn't put us up due to rowdy guests tearing it apart the night before) near the station. Nice room with balcony and private bathroom. Breakfast included - great croissants!

Spain:

Pensione Easo - Kalea San Bartolome 24, San Sebastian, Spain Ph: 34 943 45 39 12
Double bed, shared bathroom.
2 minute walk from the beach, clean rooms with TV's. Close to the train station. English spoken. If you call and get a non-English speaker, try calling back again later. Great value.

Hotel Rivera - Calle Atocha 79, 28012 Madrid, Spain Ph: 34 914 296 130
Double bed, private bathroom.
Clean rooms with A/C, bathroom with 1/2 tub and TV. Renovated a couple years ago. Close to the center. An exceptional value.

Hotel Lis II - Olavides 5, 41001 Sevilla Ph: 34 95 456 02 28
Double bed, shared bathroom.
Great location. Make sure to ask for a room facing the street. Internet offered.

Hotel Catalunya - Alicante, Spain
Double bed, private bathroom.
Centrally located. Make sure to get a room facing the street - the inner ones are hellishly hot. (I think the staff tries to pawn off these ones on backpackers if you don't insist) Clean with TV's.

Hotel Plaza - Fontanella 18 Entlo 1, Barcelona, Spain 34 933 010 139
Double bed, shared bathroom.
Clean rooms in a central area. No kitchen like "Lets Go" states. Rooms are fairly simple, you might find a better value elsewhere.

Portugal:

Residential Adelaide - Rua Cruz Des Mestres 7, Faro, Portugal Ph:289 802 883
Double bed, shared bathroom.
Hot in the summer, rooms have TV's and the occasional cockroach.

Estrela do Mondego - Lisbon, Portugal Ph: 36 71 09
Double bed, private bathroom.
I would have said these rooms were old but fine but the last night we woke up to a mouse infestation. You would be better off staying elsewhere.

Rubi-Mar - Lagos, Portugal  Ph: 420 2 875258
Double bed, private bathroom.
One of my favorite places. Fantastic pension in a fantastic place. Ask for one of the rooms with a balcony. Includes breakfast (best rolls I've ever had). The hosts, a gay couple from the UK, are wonderful and will lend you beach mats, umbrellas and go out of their way for anything you might need. Book in advance and be prepared to want to stay longer.
