I was pleasantly surprised on my arrival at this hostel. My partner
& I were accorded a warm welcome by the hostel owners (who spoke excellent
English). They were only to happy to help us plan our journeys & give advice
on a number of topics.
The hostel itself has approx ten rooms plus a dining room & large common room.
It has free internet access & a DVD player for entertainment in the evening.
When we were there the hostel was quite quiet, but I imagine that it is very
lively during the warmer months. This hostel seems suitable for all ages.
Our room was spacious, clean & warm (this was greatly appreciated as we visited
in the middle of winter!). The (segregated) showers are communual & were a bit
cold - but I would say that was understandable when trying to heat a property
of this size!
This hostel sits at the edge of the Grunewald forest - which I must say was
very picturesque in the snow. We walked through the forest everyday to catch
the bus into town. I have read some other reviews that complained of the
distance from the city centre to this hostel. However, I found that the hostel
was easily accessible from the city & wasn't more than a 15 minute bus ride
into town (although you do need to walk for five minutes to get to a bus stop).
Breakfast (not included in nightly tariff) is served every morning at a very
reasonable rate but I think the kitchen is closed to guests - so you will have
to go out for other meals. A fridge is provided if you need to keep any food
fresh. You can find an excellent "Greek" restaurant just up the road at
Roseneck which serves every kind of food at very reasonable rates (they also
have happy & crazy hours when all the drinks are cheaper!).
The nightly tariff was very reasonable & suited our limited budget perfectly.
We enjoyed our stay at this hostel & would definitely book with them again
should we ever return to Berlin.
