Review:
I know there have been some mixed reviews, but I really couldn't
have been happier.
London is super-expensive, we paid 15 GBP per night for a four-bed, but I've
heard you can get different rates depending on who you book through. I thought
the place was really clean but much bigger than most of the places we stayed.
Location
Can't be beat! Right around the corner from Piccadilly Circus and probably 3
dozen steps from the tube stop. Incredibly convenient (although how many
places aren't convenient with the tube).
Accessibility
It is true that the elevator usually either doesn't work or is jam packed, so
don't count on it.
Bathrooms
I thought they were clean (although this was my very first experience with
hostels of my month long trip). Drain drained slow so don't take too long but
there was always hot water and almost always a shower open (there are two
bathrooms for each sex on each floor, so you can almost always find one open).
Atmosphere
Very party! It's a huge hostel with young people working and it shows. We
went out to three differnt clubs on one of the nights they were leading it,
another night there was a foam party that we missed. But we didn't have a
problem with the noise, although from the window (when open) you can hear a
lot.
Breakfast
A joke as far as I'm concerned, although there were plenty of people shoveling
it in. The toast I thought was gross (I know, how can you manage to mess it up
- but you can!) and instant coffee. The juice was more like Tang (not
complaining, just FYI). After the first morning we just walked around the
corner and got a muffin.
Other notes
There were a lot of "live-ins" there when we were there. Our first roommate
obviously didn't want us there, she was "living" in a four-person but didn't
really want roommates and pointed it out. She even danced around the room
naked for us one day, at which point we transferred rooms, were alone for one
night and then ended up with some cutie German guys that were much friendlier.
Overall, good value for the money as long as you're not looking for
quiet/small, although not sure why you'd be looking for that in London!

Review:
GOOD: Relatively cheap (in London terms), GREAT location. Friendly
stuff. Good and relaxed atmosphere. Breakfast really just toast and jam, but
also great juice and tea and coffee... - perfectly OK. Toilets and showers OK,
hot water any time.
BAD: small rooms, narrow corridors, just one tiny lift (for 600 people...)
I personally do not mind these things at all, but some people might.
SUMMARY: It's OK, very good for backpackers with young minds and low budget

Review:
The hostel is in a great location, walking distance to most sites.
This also means that there is quite a bit of street noise.
The showers seemed to have intermittent hot water (especially on the higher
floors), and the bathrooms were a bit inadequate.
It was reasonably priced by London standards.

The reason why I gave more than one star is the excellent location.
That's all about the good sides. Ponging blankets, elevator out of order,
Breakfast: Toast with jam without jam because they lost the tin opener. I don't
know the UK standards, but compared to youth hostels in other countries
(Austria,Germany, Australia, NZ...) it's lousy accomodation for 30 pp/night.

Sweet little (err, big actually) hostel, located in Piccadilly Circus meant that there was so much to see and do. we were able to go out almost
everywhere without having to spend money on transport. rooms were clean and
staff were cool too (and hot) ...definitely coming back.

Location is great, but stands are the pits. It is one
of the dirtiest
rat holes I have ever stayed in. Breakfast was crap and
they charged me before I arrived. I wanted to check out after my first night but
they were reluctant to
give me my money back. |

Great location, great staff, fine honeys, a load to do
as very centrally located. Best hostel in London, went
to Generator but too dirty, staff too slow, too noisy;
definitely coming back to Piccadilly just for price,
although breakfast a bit poor but great staff serving
though! |

Location is everything in London, and Piccadilly has it.
Central to the whole city...and next to the subway
station. Many of rooms are quite tiny, and while there
are sufficient toilets and showers, there are lots of
people to fit into them. The elevator (lift) is also
tiny. The good news: the staff is friendly and helpful.
The rates are cheap. I skipped their skimpy breakfast
altogether. It wasn't the best hostel experience, but it
wasn't the worst either. Rooms were fairly quiet.
Security was very good. From what I've heard, it's the
best London has. I recommend it, but with some
reservations. |

i
only paid 7.50 GBP per night for this hostel so
therefore i can't really complain. the location (piccadilly
circus) is quite central to EVERYTHING. the bathrooms
aren't really that clean - but not nasty (read my
Friendīs Hostel in Paris review). the staff was great -
young and energetic and very helpful. guests at this
hostel get a 1 GBP discount at the door of one of the
local clubs...and i thoroughly enjoyed myself the night
i went. one of the staff members even called the club
for me to check on the price for that night..because one
of the world reknowned BBC DJs was spinning along with
someone from one of my favorite groups in the States.
you can also leave your bags in their locked luggage
room after you check out if you're still in London for a
bit. the breakfast is just toast, butter, jam and
coffee/tea BUT again i only paid 7.50 GBP per night so i
took advantage of it. and plus the staff serving
everything was really friendly and the kitchen was
lively. |
