Unfortunately this hostel was so bad that we only stayed for 1 night
and then left and found a cheap hotel that was far better.
Firstly we arrived at the hostel to find that the rooms we had reserved were
only available in the '2nd house' which involved a 20min walk. The '2nd house'
had a well hidden entrance that was badly lit and covered in graffiti. The
lights in the stairwell didn't work and by the time we reached the floor with
the rooms on the smell of stale urine was overpowering. This was coming from
the male toilets which did not look like they had been cleaned for a very long
time... The female toilets weren't much better... We didn't use the showers as
they were so unclean.
The rooms were like awful student accommodation. The lighting was poor (though
probably hid a multitude of sins). Bedding was provided in the rooms although 1
sheet and 1 pillow case were both stained and ripped.
Also got bitten by bed bugs. Unfortunately this is one of the few hostels in
Cologne which doesn't require membership to the German YHA so it still gets
visitors. I would however urge you to try and find a cheap hotel if possible.
