After travelling Europe for a while, it was so nice to turn up at a quiet and relaxing hostel. It is so near to a gorgeous beach and the views at night from the seck are beautiful. As it is family run, we ended up playing with their children which was fun ( if a little bit annoying at times!) The food is amazing, the breakfasts keep you full all day and we had a different 2 course meal every night. The only downside i would say is it feels slightly too secluded and a bit claustraphobic after a while and also you have a tab for all your alcohol, cigarettes etc and as they don't display all the prices it can add up pretty quickly. But apart from that, for the price it was really good.

After reading the reviews on Sunrock resort, I really thought it was "heaven on earth", but it was definitely not!

We had booked a double room with sea-view and, when we arrived, we had to walk up the mountain with our heavy luggage to reach a room with olive-tree-view; the "shortcut" to the room that Magdalene kindly showed us was as long as the direct route, just a little more dangerous.

Talking about the room, it was quite dirty when we arrived and the only thing we had at our disposal to clean it was an old, dirty broom, not very useful to clean the bathroom after a shower, so we had to buy a rag at the nearest mini-market. Moreover, almost all the light bulbs were broken and the only one that worked was so weak that at 7 pm you could hardly read! Oh, and the bathroom door didn't close.

And what about the water? as we lived up a hill, there was a pump that took water to our room; but this pump didn't really work and the result was that the water stopped about 3-4 times (for 10-20 seconds) during every 10-minutes shower...when we were lucky. It also happened 2 times (in out 7-days stay) that electricity went down, leaving us without water and light, so that one of us had to get dressed and walk down to the reception to complain about that, until the electricity came back.

Talking about the meals, breakfast was very good and generous, although the tables were often dirty; dinner, instead, was composed by a tiny greek salad (most of the time without greed capsicum and with just one olive) and a main course, which most of the times wasn't really a typical greek dish...like cold overcooked pastina with simmenthal or spaghetti with acid sauce!

Regarding the staff, Magdalene didn't show up a lot...the last day we kept asking her when we had to pay and she kept saying "after dinner", but, after dinner, when we looked for her, the bartender told us she was sleeping!!! As we were leaving at 5 am we sent him down to wake her up and we tried to pay with our credit card (which, looking at the labels on the door, should have been accepted) but she didn't accept them, so we had to collect all the cash we had left and pay; after we gave her all the money in cash, she didn't even try to smile to us!!

As the hostel was very isolated from Corfu's nightlife, the Vrachos bar was the only place to go; fortunately the Vrachos bar-staff (Paul, John and Alex) was very nice, friendly and available to us and almost every night we played funny games; moreover, the 0,5 l-beer costed just 2 euros!!

Thanks to Paul, John and Alex we really had fun at Sunrock but I wouldn't really recommend this place. .

Quick walk to a beautiful beach, helpful staff, relatively clean, delicious breakfast and dinner included; watch out for your tab...it adds up quickly.

Sunrock is located at Pelekas Beach on Corfu in Greece, and is by far the best hostel I've ever stayed at. It is the alternative to the Pink Palace, I believe truly perfect for those who hate the atmosphere there. It's relaxed during the day and when busy a party at night. It's built into a hillside right above one of the nicest beaches on Corfu, surrounded by green, and it's only a short walk to 3 different beaches, including a mud/nudist, the major, crowded beach, and a quieter one (all sandy and lovely). There's snorkeling and cliff-diving right there. Prices are around 20 euro for small dorms or private rooms, including a full breakfast and restaurant-quality dinner. It's family-run, and the atmosphere is really friendly. The owners will help you out with whatever you need, calling Greek travel agents or renting a scooter. There's linens, internet and laundry service. And the sunset views...
