Review:
Worst. Hostel. Ever. Where do I
start? First, I was truly shocked at how rude, unhelpful and just plain nasty
the staff were (while everyone else I interacted with in the city was generally
curteous, polite and friendly). To be sure, my complaints go way beyond the
normal hostel complaints like the push-button 10 second showers, curfews, etc.
On top of all the usual stuff, Young and Happy is just surprisingly terrible.
(Maybe the name should have been a dead giveaway.) In addition to the above
problems, the toilets, showers and sink areas were filthy and nauseating. They
require a 5 euro deposit for sheets and a bath towel, but they don't tell you
that you have to hang onto a tiny receipt or you will not see those 5 euros
again. You can't bring in any wine that you buy (even as a souvenir) because
they want to sell you their own alcohol at not-so-gre
at prices. Your nights will be punctuated with street noise, fire alarms and
noisy drunks. To top it off, they make you pay cash for the entire stay up
front, and will not refund you if you want to leave the place early (presumably
this has been an issue with them -- hard to imagine why). Did I mention the
horribly rude staff already? If you have a choice, don't bother with this
place. I was short on cash, but in hindsight the extra money for a hotel would
have been worth every last cent. At least some other hostel... Do yourself a
favor...
